We initially chose Minds in Motion for our six-year old daughter because Katie was willing to come to our house for their Orton Gillingham sessions - a major plus for a family with three children and two working parents. Due to COVID-19, our daughter's sessions have moved online, but the connection that she and Katie fostered during their almost two years working together in person has paid dividends in terms of her ability to continue to learn with Katie.
Katie is friendly, engaging, caring, non-judgemental, honest, patient, firm when necessary, professional, and very, very good at what she does. She has clear ideas about the optimal ways to teach a struggling child to read, but she adapts those ideas to the individual student as needed. She has a wide variety of activities, manipulatives, and books, each carefully chosen to reinforce the lesson of the day. Â
Our daughter has been working with Katie for over two years and in that time I have seen her flourish as a reader. She looks forward to her time with Katie and when we're reading together, she often points out specific sounds and strategies from recent lessons - it is very funny and also makes me feel very proud. I am so grateful to Katie for all that she has done and all that she continues to do for our daughter.Â
